Delivery statuses
What does "in transit" mean for a parcel?
In transit means the parcel is moving through the carrier network — between depots, at a sorting centre, or heading toward the delivery area. A parcel can stay in transit for more than a day without anything being wrong, especially over weekends, across borders, or during busy shipping periods.
What does "out for delivery" mean?
Out for delivery means the parcel has reached the local delivery stage and a delivery attempt is expected soon. The exact arrival window still depends on the route, local conditions, and carrier workload.
What does "label created" mean?
Label created means the sender or carrier has registered the shipment, but the parcel has not yet been scanned into the carrier network. Tracking will start updating once the carrier physically picks up and scans the package.
What does "delivery attempted" mean?
Delivery attempted means the carrier tried to deliver but nobody was available to receive it. A card or notification is usually left with instructions for re-delivery or collection from a pickup point or parcel locker.
What does "exception" mean?
An exception means something interrupted normal delivery, such as an address issue, a customs hold, damaged goods, or a missed pickup window. Check the carrier site for the specific reason and any action required from you.
Tracking not updating
Why has my tracking number stopped updating?
Tracking updates when a parcel is physically scanned. If the parcel is moving between facilities, there may be no new public event until it reaches the next checkpoint. This is common overnight, over weekends, at borders, or during customs handovers.
How long is it normal for a parcel to go without an update?
For domestic shipments, 24 hours without an update is common and usually not a concern. For international shipments around customs, gaps of 2-5 days can be normal. If a parcel has not moved for more than 5-7 business days, it is worth contacting the carrier.
Does "no tracking updates" mean my parcel is lost?
Not usually. Most parcels go quiet between scans without any problem. A true lost parcel claim typically requires the carrier to investigate, usually only after several weeks with no movement and confirmation that the shipment went missing.
What should I do if my tracking has not updated for several days?
Check the tracking number for typos, confirm the correct carrier is selected, and give the next scan time to appear. For urgent parcels, contact the sender or carrier directly with the tracking number. ParcelTag keeps the parcel in your dashboard and surfaces new events as soon as they become available.
Using ParcelTag
Is ParcelTag free to use?
Yes. ParcelTag is a free parcel tracking dashboard. You need an account to save and track parcels, but there is no charge to use the core tracking features.
Which carriers does ParcelTag support?
ParcelTag currently supports Swiss Post, DHL, DHL Express, Planzer, Royal Mail, UPS, and additional carriers. Check the carriers page for the current list.
Does ParcelTag scan my email to find packages?
No. ParcelTag does not need access to your email or shopping accounts. You add tracking numbers manually: paste the number from a confirmation email or parcel label, choose the carrier, and ParcelTag does the rest.
How do I add a parcel to ParcelTag?
Create a free account, then use the "Add parcel" button on your dashboard. Paste the tracking number, choose the carrier, give the parcel a label like the item name or store, and save. ParcelTag will start checking for carrier updates.
How often does ParcelTag check for updates?
ParcelTag checks supported carriers periodically and updates your dashboard when new tracking events appear. Active parcels are checked more frequently than those already marked as delivered.
Is ParcelTag a replacement for official carrier tracking?
No. Carrier sites remain the official source of truth for delivery decisions and support cases. ParcelTag adds a centralized layer on top, one account where every carrier event appears in the same timeline and dashboard.
