Track FedEx with context
FedEx tracking events are stored as a timeline, making it easier to follow a shipment from label creation through to delivery in one view.
Labelling parcels by item name or order reference makes them easier to identify than tracking numbers alone, especially when waiting on multiple deliveries at once.
FedEx tracking number formats
FedEx uses several different number formats depending on the service. Express shipments typically use 12-digit numbers, while FedEx Ground uses 15- or 20-digit numbers. Some numbers begin with 96, 61, or 02.
When adding a FedEx parcel to ParcelTag, paste the full tracking number as it appears on the label or shipping confirmation email.
About FedEx
FedEx Corporation was founded in 1971 by Frederick W. Smith and launched commercial operations in 1973, pioneering overnight air freight in the United States. It now operates one of the largest cargo airline fleets in the world, with hubs in Memphis, Indianapolis, and Cologne.
FedEx handles several hundred million packages per year across its Express, Ground, Freight, and Office divisions. Its global network covers more than 220 countries and territories.
FedEx status messages explained
"Label created" means FedEx has received shipment information but may not yet have the physical parcel. "Picked up" means FedEx has collected the parcel and it has entered the network. "In transit" covers movement between FedEx facilities. "Out for delivery" means the parcel is on a vehicle heading to the delivery address that day.
"Delivery attempt" means FedEx tried to deliver but was unable to complete it — a door tag is typically left. "Exception" covers holds, customs delays, or address issues requiring attention. Checking the FedEx site directly for instructions is recommended when an exception appears.
