Track UPS with the rest
UPS parcel tracking updates can be stored as a parcel timeline, helping you compare the latest delivery status with earlier scans.
Labels make UPS parcels easier to recognize when several shipments are moving at the same time.
UPS live tracking and delivery route updates
UPS live tracking terms usually matter most after the parcel reaches the destination facility. Before that point, updates are based on origin, arrival, departure, and hub scans rather than a continuous route view.
ParcelTag keeps UPS out-for-delivery and exception updates visible in the same dashboard as DHL, FedEx, Royal Mail, Swiss Post, and other supported carriers.
Readable delivery history
ParcelTag normalizes common UPS states such as label created, in transit, out for delivery, delivered, exceptions, and returns.
The official UPS tracking page remains the source of truth, while ParcelTag keeps supported updates organized with your other carriers.
UPS tracking number format
UPS tracking numbers usually start with 1Z and are 18 characters long, mixing letters and digits — for example 1Z999AA10123456784.
Mail Innovations and SurePost shipments may use a different numeric format until they hand over to local delivery; both forms can be added to ParcelTag.
About UPS
United Parcel Service was founded on 28 August 1907 by 19-year-old James Casey in Seattle, Washington, starting with $100 borrowed. Originally the American Messenger Company, it grew into one of the world's largest package delivery companies. UPS now delivers around 5.2 billion packages per year — approximately 20.8 million parcels per day — across 220+ countries and territories.
UPS operates one of the largest private airline fleets in the world alongside a ground network with tens of thousands of vehicles. The UPS Access Point network provides over 40,000 pickup and drop-off locations at retail partners worldwide, giving recipients a flexible alternative when they cannot be home for a signature-required delivery.
UPS scan events and what they mean
"Origin Scan" is the first physical scan when UPS collects the package — transit time and the delivery estimate are calculated from this point, not from "Label Created". "Arrival Scan" and "Departure Scan" appear each time the package reaches or leaves a UPS hub; a pair of these per hub is normal. "Destination Scan" means the package is at the final facility before the delivery driver loads it.
"On Vehicle for Delivery" (sometimes shown as "Out for Delivery") means the driver has loaded the parcel for the day's delivery route. "Exception" is a broad status that can cover a missed delivery attempt, a weather delay, an address issue, or a customs hold — the specific reason is always shown in the Shipment Progress section on the UPS tracking page.
